All of the CU Water Cooler editors are excited to welcome you to the 2014 CU Water Cooler Symposium next week in Austin, Texas! Here's some tips to make your stay awesome.

Venue address

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, The Ritz is located at 320 East 6th Street.

The Courtyard by Marriott doesn’t provide transportation from the airport. Since the venues are all within walking distance there isn’t a need to rent a car unless you plan to do other exploring. Here’s some transportation options for you:

  • Super Shuttle, fee: $13 USD (one way), reservation required
  • Estimated taxi fare: $30 USD (one way)

Two must attend parties

Wednesday, September 10 from 5:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m.
RevolutionCredit and gameFI host the Kickoff Meet-Up at the Recess Arcade Bar located at 222 E. 6th Street. Expect fun retro video games, adult beverages and delicious pizza.

Thursday, September 11 from 6:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m.
Buzz Points has put together an amazing happy hour for us at Bourbon Girl located at 212 E. 6th Street. You'll receive two free drink tickets and light bites from Jacoby's Restaurant. Entertainment for the happy hour will be Paul Cauthen and his band.

What to wear

The entire event is casual. Feel free to wear your jeans. If you just can't dress down, business casual is fine. Those wearing super formal business attire, tuxedos and ball gowns will be stopped at the door. The 14-day forecast for Austin is mid 80s, sunny and a little humid. You'll want to keep that in mind when you pack!

Registration is open at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday morning at the theater. No tickets are necessary. If you are on the list, we'll have a package for you with your name tag, agenda, lunch menus and T-shirt.

Get the full agenda here. There will also be a printed agenda in your package. The agenda is pretty simple since it's all in one room! Things kick off promptly at 8:45 a.m. on Thursday. Get there shortly after 8:00 a.m., grab your registration package and park yourself in a comfy theater seat and take it all in. Nine main speakers, six PechaKucha speakers and 10 sponsor presentations. We'll even bring your lunch to you!

Audience participation

This year where trying something new called Crowd Mics. Everyone in the audience carrying an iPhone or Android phone with the app (download iPhoneAndroid) will have a microphone in their hand! We'll explain how to use it during the welcome on Thursday morning.

Social media

This is a very social crowd. Make sure to follow and use the hashtag #cuwcs on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

See you next week!
