How to Embrace the 10% by Alan Davis

Length: 6:39

Style: PechaKucha 20x20 is a simple presentation format where you show 20 images, each for 20 seconds.

Speaker: Alan Davis is the Principal, Banking + Retail at Baskervill.

Synopsis: There I was on the deck of the boat I had just successfully navigated through a treacherous lightning storm—miles out from the safety of land—and I took a moment to catch my breath, to think about what I had just experienced and accomplished. I remembered the advice my sailing partner gave to me before we embarked on the journey: Sailing is 90% utter boredom punctuated by 10% sheer terror and thrilling adventure. And boy was he right. My sailing adventure was a near-perfect metaphor for the quickly churning currents of change within the banking industry. When you’re sailing, you must immerse yourself in the environment. You’ve got to understand the atmosphere around you and the water below you. You’ve got to know the shape of your vessel, what it’s capable of and where it’s most vulnerable. To pass through the storm, you must be connected to all of the physical feedback mechanisms available to you.

Event: The How To Conference by CU Water Cooler was held at the Majestic Theatre in Madison, Wisconsin on June 12-13, 2018.
